Everest and Fuji now sell the wait

Everest ka ticket: $15,000 (about ₹12.5 lakh). Fuji ka ticket: ¥4,000 (about ₹2,300). Both countries are selling your place in the line.

One place in the Everest line: $15,000 (about ₹12.5 lakh). That is only Nepal's fee, and it buys you entry to the line. Not a place at the front of it.

Nepal raised the spring Everest permit from $11,000 to $15,000 (about ₹12.5 lakh) on 1 September 2025.

The ticket

Climbers call the last stretch the death zone: above about 7,950 metres the air is so thin the body starts shutting down, and you get roughly three days there. The worst jam sits higher still.

Where it hurts

Fuji does it the other way. 4,000 slots a day, ¥4,000 each (about ₹2,300), paid before you arrive. The gate shuts at 2 p.m., and the crowd is booked like seats at a venue.

Opposite levers

The same counter that sells you the wait also makes it shorter. You pay more to stand there less. The waiting did not go away. It now has a ticket counter.

The rules that price the wait also shorten it. Fuji's gate closes at 2 p.m., and Everest's permit runs 55 days, not 75.
THE OLD DEAL
Time on the mountain was free.
You queued as long as the crowd forced you to: standing still on the summit ridge, or pushing up Fuji overnight to catch the sunrise. The danger was unpriced.
THE NEW DEAL
Pay more, stay less.
Fuji's ¥4,000 slot bans the overnight climb and meters the gate. Everest's fee buys a permit that now runs 55 days, not 75, on a line an Everest chronicler has linked to deaths. The waiting has not gone away. It now has a ticket counter.
